If you’ve been in the balisong community for any amount of time, you’ve noticed the majority of balisongs nowadays lack a few features that were commonly found on their earlier counterparts. These being latches and pocket clips. We as a community found latches to be annoying, so latchless balisongs became the norm. We found pocket clips on balisongs get in the way of flipping too, so most of us ditched those as well. Although the result of dropping these features resulted in a much better flipping experience, we are left with a balisong that cannot stay closed on its own and that cannot be carried by itself. So what has been done to address this issue? Well, not a whole lot. For years, us balisong enthusiests relied on the same few solutions all of which are far from perfect. With my growing frustration with the carrying options available, I set out to develop a balisong carrying solution that meets my demands. And thus, the Bali Buckle was born!
The Bali Buckle has quite a few features packed into it that make it that much closer to a perfect balisong carrying solution:
Adjustable: fits any standard-framed balisong (maybe baliswords too idk. Someone should try and let me know).
Pocket & Waistband Carry
Low Profile: weighs only 0.5 oz & flattens itself when a balisong is not being holstered.
Keeps latchless balisongs closed.
Lockit-Clip: my made-up term for the pocket clip that keeps the Bali Buckle attached to you when the balisong is being unholstered.
100% MADE IN THE USA
Customizable: Change out the band, anodize the titanium buckle, attach a lanyard, etc.
Self Repairable: If the band wears out over time, most 1” wide elastic fabric can be used to replace the existing band.
Affordable: all of these features at a fair price (compared to other available carrying options).
Obviously the Bali Buckle is a pretty unconventional approach to a balisong carrying solution, but unique problems require unique solutions. Pick one up and give it a try! Just like anything in life, nothing is truly perfect. This fact of life also applies to the Bali Buckle. Some may have minuscule blemishes or abnormalities even after careful inspection and hand finishing. Keep in mind, the Bali Buckle was designed to be used and enjoyed. Once you start using it, it’s going to get dinged, dropped, and battle worn anyway. So don't fret if you find a tiny scratch or two; there will be plenty more where that came from!
